Importing FRP Grating from China: Lead Times, QC and Documents
Most industrial FRP grating is manufactured in China, and most import problems trace to skipping four checks. Here is the practical sequence.
Sourcing: factory or trader?
Ask every candidate for: (1) their pultrusion / molding line count, (2) a recent third-party inspection certificate, (3) a panel-specific load table sample, and (4) the legal entity on the proforma invoice versus the business licence. A factory answers all four in a day. JINGLUE's plant in Nanjing runs both molded and pultruded lines and regularly hosts SGS / BV witness inspection before shipment.
Container maths
FRP's low weight becomes freight advantage: a 40 ft HC container takes roughly 1 400–1 700 m² of 38 mm molded grating (weight-limited much earlier in steel). Panels nest into palletized stacks; specifying panels at multiples of the 1 × 3 m or 1 × 4 m stock sheet minimizes cutting waste — and cutting waste is paid freight either way.
Quality control that actually works
- Panel-specific load table for your depth/mesh/resin, signed — not a catalogue sheet
- Mill certificates per batch: resin type, glass content, panel weight
- Pre-shipment inspection: dimensional check on 10 % of panels, weight check on 5 %, visual on 100 % — by SGS/BV if the order size justifies it
- Written resin confirmation against your media list (this is the clause from the specification guide)
Realistic timeline
Standard panels ex-stock: 1–2 weeks to ship. Cut-to-schedule orders: 3–5 weeks production after drawing approval. Add 3–5 weeks ocean transit to most destinations, less to regional ports. The approval cycle on drawings is the most common delay — send panel schedules early, freeze them quickly.
