Municipal WWTP: 610 m² of Clarifier Walkways Converted to FRP
| Location | Queensland, Australia |
| Completed | 2025-09 |
| Quantity | 610 m² + 210 m handrail |
| Products | Molded grating 38 mm, ISO polyester · Mini-mesh panels · FRP cage ladder |
The challenge
Clarifier perimeter walkways at a coastal treatment works had been patched three times in ten years. The utility's asset plan showed the steel would consume its whole maintenance allocation by 2030. Panels also had to be lifted onto the clarifier walls without a crane on a live site.
The solution
Panels were supplied in 1 m × 3 m modules at 38 mm depth in ISO polyester — light enough for two-person lifts onto the corbels — with radius-cut weir covers, mini-mesh panels at the sampling stations, and one FRP cage ladder per clarifier.
Outcomes
- All four clarifiers converted over one summer program without taking two offline at once
- Handrail and grating share one fixing system — single supplier interface
- Asset register updated with a 25-year design life and zero recoat events
- Utility standard detail updated to FRP as the default for new works
