Marina Rebuild: 1,150 m² of Pontoon Decking That Survives Salt and Ice
| Location | Oslofjord, Norway |
| Completed | 2025-06 |
| Quantity | 1 150 m² pontoon decking |
| Products | Molded grating 38 mm, ISO polyester · FRP handrail |
The challenge
The old timber decking lasted 8–10 years before rot and fastener failure; the previous aluminum trial pitted badly in the splash zone. The owner wanted a 20-year surface, heel-safe openings for visiting sailors, and panels light enough to lift ashore for winter maintenance where needed.
The solution
1 150 m² of 38 mm molded grating in ISO polyester, light gray with gritted surface, supplied cut to the pontoon builder's panel schedule including radius-cut corner panels, plus FRP handrail on the fairway sides.
Outcomes
- Deck dead load reduced ~11 kg/m² vs the timber alternative — extra freeboard on the same floats
- Heel-safe 19 mm mini mesh specified on the two guest walkways
- No fastener corrosion issues — FRP clips and 316 SS hardware only
- Winter freeze-thaw and ice-scrape exposure: no surface damage reported through the first season
